Check out NPR’s great interview with Victor LaValle, author of “Destroyer”, a new limited series comic book. It modernizes the Frankenstein story showing a “monster” who becomes enraged after witnessing a whaling ship kill a whale and goes to war with the human race. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, LaValle explores how the character of Josephine Baker, a black woman scientist descended from the Victor Frankenstein line, follows her family legacy to restore her 12 year old son to life after his unnnecessary shooting by a police officer.
